Celebrating Family and Community in Peterborough this July
In Peterborough, the month of July tends to offer a variety of public events that act as opportunities to celebrate with family and friends. As usual, Canada Day kicks things off in terms of summer festivities, which include cheering on local sports teams, indulging in a Ribfest put on by the local Rotary Club, or by nurturing some creativity alongside your children. There always seems to be something fun going on here in Peterborough, and that’s what makes being a Realtor in the Kawartha Lakes that much more exciting.
Thoughtfully Celebrating Canada Day
July 1st kicks off with the annual Canada Day Parade, a lively tradition that brings the community together. Starting at noon, the parade winds its way down George Street, showcasing local organizations, marching bands, and colorful floats. Festivities begin even earlier at 10 AM in Confederation Square, offering a variety of activities for families, including face painting, henna, and a birthday cake cutting ceremony to commemorate Canada's special day.
Of course, this national celebration involves more than fireworks and festivities. It also offers us a chance to reflect on the up’s and down’s of Canadian history, acknowledging the importance of reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Peterborough is situated on the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg, a connection that should be remembered.
Catch a Century 21 Lakers Game
For sports fans, July brings the excitement of the local lacrosse season, often involving the Century 21 Lakers as they face off against regional rivals right here at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Cheer on our home team on July 4th as they play against the Cobourg Kodiaks, and again on July 11th against the Brampton Excelsiors. Both games start at 8 PM, and should offer a great evening of fast-paced action and athleticism.
Savour Flavour at the Rotary Ribfest
Mark your calendars for a delicious Peterborough summer tradition – the 19th Annual Rotary Ribfest! Held over three days, July 12th to 14th, at Millennium Park, this event features a selection of ribs from various vendors.
Beyond the star attraction, the Rotary Ribfest offers a family experience too, as you and your loved ones can enjoy fresh food and live music. This event also supports a worthy cause, as proceeds go towards the Kawartha Rotary Club's community initiatives. Support local, my friends.
Art Gallery of Peterborough
Looking for an enriching family activity? Look no further than the Art Gallery of Peterborough's Family Sunday program. Held on the first Sunday of each month, this free event provides a fun and engaging environment for families and their kids to get creative. The July 7th session features seasonally themed art-making activities inspired by the gallery's current exhibitions.
